Lake Arrowhead

Lake Arrowhead is a gorgeous crystal clear mountain lake. It is considered one of the cleanest lakes in Georgia. It is a spring fed lake and the water is so clear you can see your feet when swimming! Since the lake is not used for flood control or power generation, the water levels stay constant, allowing enjoyment of the lake all 12 months of the year. As a private lake, there is no “corp line” so lakefront homes are generally about 50 feet from the water’s edge, affording incredible lake and mountain views! A boat launch is currently available for property owners, and boat slips are rented as available, plus lakefront homes typically have private docks. Water sports, fishing, and viewing scenery and wildlife are popular lake activities.

Lake Arrowhead boat lessons and rentals are available for pontoon boats, sailboats, kayaks, canoes, paddleboats, fishing boats and more! Contact Captain Rob at boatsforrent@gmail.com or 770-887-7966 for details and pricing!

Lake Arrowhead Q&A

Is the lake clean?
Lake Arrowhead is a gorgeous crystal clear lake surrounded by the southern tip of the Blue Ridge mountain range. It is considered one of the cleanest lakes in Georgia. It is a spring fed mountain lake and the water is so clear you can see your feet when swimming! The homes in Lake Arrowhead are on a private sewer system so there is no septic tank leakage in the water.
What are the benefits of a private lake?
Since the lake is not used for flood control or power generation, the water levels stay constant, allowing enjoyment of the lake all 12 months of the year. As a private lake, there is no “corp line” so lakefront homes are generally about 50 feet from the water’s edge, affording incredible lake and mountain views! Gated security makes it great for a 1st or 2nd home, especially for people who enjoy the privacy a gated community affords. Many residents who enjoy traveling like the security of being in a gated community. Since Lake Arrowhead is private, with no public access or guest boats allowed, it is less crowded than many other lakes in the SE United States.
What is the lake size and depth?
Lake Arrowhead is 540 acres and reaches depths of up to 85-90 feet. It is fed by clean mountain streams and has 11 miles of shore line. There is a large wide area of the lake used for power boating, and a more narrow area of the lake with pristine coves designated as a “no wake” zone where most of the residential homes are located. Having a no wake area near homes provides a quiet setting for relaxing on docks, paddling a canoe or kayak, fishing, or exercising on a water bicycle.
What year round lake activities are popular?
Boating enthusiasts quickly learn that in addition to water sporting activities like skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing, the lake offers year round opportunities for enjoyment. A popular activity is watching magnificent sunrises and sunsets over the mountains while floating on a pontoon boat on the lake. In the spring, wildflowers and mountain laurel bloom along the lakeshore, showing off nature’s artistry. In July, boats gather on the water while spectators watch an incredible fireworks display over the lake. In the fall, boaters enjoy gazing at the glorious fall leaf color surrounding the lake. In the middle of the winter, boaters get away from it all by taking a boat ride while sipping hot chocolate, especially popular after a dusting of snow!
What fishing and nature activities exist?
Lake Arrowhead has several untouched, pristine coves which provide a fantastic destination for a "boating picnic," where it is common to see water turtles basking on logs, blue heron standing at the water’s edge, and deer grazing in the woods. Fishing is a popular activity at Lake Arrowhead GA, where anglers catch bass, crappie, bream, and catfish.
What kinds of power boats are allowed?
Pontoon and ski boats are currently allowed, but jet skis are not allowed, which makes the lake safer and less noisy. No guest boats are allowed. Lake Arrowhead regulations require cleaner 4-stroke engines and limit gasoline engines to one per property after March 2008. All boats must be properly annually registered and display a Lake Arrowhead sticker.
Are boat slips or boat storage available?
There is a boat launch and rental slips are also an option on the water when available. Johnson Development, a partner in the re-development of Lake Arrowhead, has stated their plans to create a larger marina facility which will be a professionally operated and add more slips and small boat rentals. Boat, RV and trailer storage space is also available for rent within Lake Arrowhead in a secure area. The covenants require boats, RV’s, and trailers be kept in a garage or stored out of view.
Are docks allowed?
Permanent docks on pylons and floating docks are permitted with approval per the covenants and restrictions.
Is the lake crowded?
Lake Arrowhead (540 acres) is 1/24 the size of Lake Allatoona (12,000 acres), which is also in Cherokee County. Lake Allatoona has public access and 6 million visitors a year. Lake Arrowhead is limited to property owners, so it doesn’t get as crowded, except occasionally on holidays. Lake Arrowhead would have to host 250,000 visitors a year to reach the same levels of usage (per acre) as Lake Allatoona!
Where is Lake Chickasaw?
In addition to the “big” lake called Lake Arrowhead, there is a smaller creek fed lake called Lake Chickasaw on the north end of the community. While many of the homes on this lake also have docks, only electric motors are permitted, providing a tranquil opportunity for lakeside living.
